Art in Munich is associated with a large number of museum and exhibition spaces, including internationally renowned collections of all different types.

The famous art galleries Pinakotheken: great art in Munich
The central district Maxvorstadt is a mecca of art. Here you can find the art collections of the Munich Pinakothek, which are among the most important in the world. The "Alte Pinakothek" (old), "Neue Pinakothek" (new) and modern Pinakothek impress with important art works. The Alte Pinakothek displays  since 1836 a collection of paintings from the Middle Ages until the 18th century. Among these are pictures of Duerer, da Vinci, Rubens, Titian and Rembrandt. The follow up of this collection you can admire in the Neue Pinakothek and the Pinakothek der Moderne displays exhibitions up to the 20th century as well as the classic modern art and from the present. The Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich also has collections of the Design Museum.

Diverse art landscape Munich
Also located in the Maxvorstadt district is the gallery in the Lenbach house. The Bavarian portrait painter Franz von Lenbach lived in this villa which was built in 1891. In the rooms you can admire images of the famous expressionist group "Der Blaue Reiter", such as works from Wassily Kandinsky, Franz Marc, Paul Klee and Gabriele Muenter.

Retro perspectives of contemporary international artists as well as thematic exhibitions make the Pinakothek der Moderne in Prinzregentenstrasse to a much visited address. In the former air-raid shelter in the 1937 opened exhibition building is the collection of Ingvild Goetz on film and media arts on display. Around 500 works by 170 artists make the collection one of the most important in Europe. In 1992 opened not far away from this exhibition the nationwide popular museum "Villa Stuck". In the former home of the Lower Bavarian painter and sculptor Franz von Stuck are various permanent and temporary exhibitions. The images of the artist deal with designs from fantasy stories, fable and erotic illustrations.
